In Dreams Begin Nightmares

in the mirror of my mind
I saw you in armour-
inside the armour
soupy, spasmodic worms
oozing in and out of chambers
with steel eyes and ears-
I felt their caustic tongue
telling lies
I shook their grip
and you were there
lying next to me, unaware
vacant nostrils
mouth gaping breath
I could see them
crawling from your teeth
I woke to reality
glad that the carbonate
of your remains
the empty vortex of your brain
bones neatly picked
was a myth
glad that the tiny droplets
that left your lips
spun a life line
to my crumpled pillow
