The stone mason's tink like an insistent bird
distinct against the grey wash of traffic.
To begin the whole
complex business again.
Killed the cat,
but nonetheless

Killed the cat
scared a rat
ate the hat
ground the bat.
You will lose a finger
but it won't be yours
you will have a baby

with many toes.
                           The earthquake
will split the ground you
have nothing to do with.
Takes it in his hand and
drops it upwards.
Leaves a shadow.
